A SHTICKLE TORAH from Rabbi Yitzchak Salid on Pekudei 5769

It is interesting to note that no matter how the calendar is directed, Parashas Parah and Parashas HaChodesh are always recited on consecutive Shabbosos. As we know, Parashas Parah is a reminder to cleanse ourselves in preparation for Pesach and Parashas HaChodesh speaks of the actual preparation of the korban Pesach. There is, however, a deeper connection between the two parshios. From the Torah’s point of view, defilement is caused by carelessness and not being on guard as to one’s surroundings. This is true not only of ritual defilement but of psychological and metaphysical damage as well. We must constantly keep a spiritual vigil and not permit anti-Torah thoughts to infect our minds. Parashas HaChodesh, with its focus on the laws of Pesach, echoes the same theme. The Torah tells us how careful we must be in every detail of the Holiday, especially in preparation of the matzos and riding ourselves of the slightest speck of chametz. Pesach is the incarnation of care and diligence, and the antithesis of the laziness about which we were admonished in Parashas Parah. FROM THIS WE LEARN that as Pesach draws closer, we must become ever more sensitized to the concepts of carefulness and diligence to glean all the Holiday has to offer. .
